JSW Steel has approved fresh capital expenditure exceeding ₹33,000 crore during the first quarter of the financial year 2026-27, reinforcing its long-term strategy to expand steelmaking capacity and strengthen downstream operations across India.
The latest approval takes the company’s overall investment pipeline to approximately ₹1.31 lakh crore, which is expected to be deployed over the next four to five years. The investment reflects JSW Steel’s continued focus on meeting rising domestic steel demand while enhancing manufacturing efficiency and value-added product capabilities.
A major portion of the newly sanctioned capital expenditure will be utilised for the second phase expansion of the company’s flagship Vijayanagar steel plant in Karnataka. The project aims to increase the facility’s steelmaking capacity from 15 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to 26 MTPA and is scheduled for commissioning by the financial year 2029-30.
Apart from expanding crude steel capacity, JSW Steel has earmarked around ₹2,000 crore for downstream infrastructure. The investment will support production optimisation and improve operational capabilities across multiple manufacturing locations, enabling the company to strengthen its portfolio of higher-value steel products.
The Vijayanagar complex remains one of the world’s largest single-location steel manufacturing facilities and has been central to JSW Steel’s expansion strategy over the past decade. The company has consistently invested in brownfield expansions at Vijayanagar while simultaneously developing capacity at its Dolvi plant in Maharashtra and projects in Odisha.
Since April 1, 2026, JSW Steel has already incurred capital expenditure of ₹3,052 crore. For the current financial year, the company expects total capital expenditure to be between ₹22,000 crore and ₹24,000 crore as construction and expansion activities gather pace.
The continued investments underline JSW Steel’s confidence in India’s long-term infrastructure and manufacturing growth. With multiple expansion projects progressing simultaneously, the company is positioning itself to meet future demand from sectors such as infrastructure, construction, automotive, engineering and renewable energy, while reinforcing its status as one of India’s leading integrated steel producers.
