Wind energy major Suzlon Group is planning a major expansion in Andhra Pradesh, with a proposed investment of around ₹10,000 crore as the company looks to deepen its presence in the state’s renewable energy sector.
The planned investment is part of Suzlon’s broader growth strategy for Andhra Pradesh and is expected to support the development of new wind and other renewable energy projects. The company is targeting an additional 5 gigawatts (GW) of renewable energy capacity in the state by 2030.
The expansion could also provide a boost to local employment. Around 4,000 direct and indirect jobs are expected to be created as new projects are developed, with opportunities likely to emerge across construction, engineering, logistics, operations and maintenance.
Suzlon already has a sizeable renewable energy footprint in Andhra Pradesh. The company has more than 1,700 megawatts (MW) of installed wind power capacity across the state. The proposed investment would build on this existing portfolio and expand its involvement in Andhra Pradesh’s growing renewable energy ecosystem.
The planned 5 GW addition is significant as India continues to increase renewable power generation and reduce its dependence on conventional energy sources. For Andhra Pradesh, the investment could further strengthen the state’s position as a hub for wind and renewable energy projects.
The expansion is also expected to create opportunities for companies operating across the renewable energy supply chain. Engineering, procurement and construction contractors, equipment manufacturers, logistics providers, transmission companies and renewable energy service firms could benefit as new projects move from development to execution.
For Suzlon, the Andhra Pradesh plan comes at a time when demand for renewable electricity is increasing and developers are exploring larger wind and hybrid energy projects across the country. The company’s existing installed capacity in the state gives it an established base from which to scale up its operations.
If the proposed investment and capacity plans progress as outlined, Suzlon’s Andhra Pradesh expansion could become an important contributor to the state’s renewable energy growth over the coming years. The development would also add to India’s wider push to expand clean-energy capacity while creating new industrial and employment opportunities around renewable power projects.
