Bengaluru’s airport district is set to witness another major addition to its rapidly evolving commercial landscape, with Prestige Group announcing plans to develop a large convention and exhibition centre within the Bangalore Airport City precinct. The project, being developed in partnership with Bangalore Airport City Ltd (BACL), will involve an investment of approximately ₹1,800 crore and is expected to become one of the city’s most significant business event destinations.
The proposed development will come up on a 14.2-acre site within the airport city ecosystem surrounding Kempegowda International Airport. Construction is expected to begin in 2027, while the facility is targeted for completion and inauguration by 2031.
The project reflects a broader transformation taking place across India’s major airports. No longer functioning solely as transportation hubs, airports are increasingly evolving into integrated business districts that combine commercial, hospitality, retail and entertainment infrastructure. Similar developments around airports in Delhi and Hyderabad have demonstrated how airport-led urbanisation can generate economic activity and attract global investments.
For Bengaluru, the convention and exhibition centre is expected to create a dedicated platform for hosting international conferences, trade exhibitions, corporate events and industry gatherings. The city has emerged as one of India’s leading technology and innovation centres, attracting multinational corporations, startups, global capability centres and research institutions. However, industry experts have often highlighted the need for more world-class event infrastructure to support the city’s growing global profile.
Airport City officials envision the larger precinct as a destination that combines office developments, hospitality assets, innovation districts and entertainment venues. The convention centre is expected to become a key anchor project within this ecosystem, attracting business travellers and event organisers from India and overseas.
The investment also underlines the continued confidence of leading developers in Bengaluru’s long-term growth story. With strong demand from technology, aviation, logistics and corporate sectors, the airport corridor has emerged as one of the most active real estate and infrastructure growth zones in the country.
Once operational, the project is expected to enhance Bengaluru’s competitiveness in the meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions segment while contributing to the city’s economic and commercial development.
