Kalaignar International Convention Centre in Muttukadu Set for Completion by February 2026

The prestigious Kalaignar International Convention Centre at Muttukadu, Tamil Nadu, is rapidly taking shape and is scheduled for completion by February 2026. Spearheaded by the Public Works Department (PWD), this Rs 525-crore project is envisioned to transform Chennai into a major global destination for international conventions, exhibitions, and large-scale events.

Spread across 37.99 acres along the scenic East Coast Road, the project includes a sprawling 2.08 lakh sq. ft. built-up area that will host state-of-the-art facilities designed to international standards. The centre will feature a 91,924 sq. ft. exhibition hall capable of accommodating 10,000 visitors, a 5,000-seat convention hall, and a 1,500-seat auditorium. Additionally, the complex will include dedicated dining facilities, administrative areas, and parking space for over 3,300 vehicles, ensuring convenience and accessibility for participants and guests.

Tamil Nadu’s Public Works Minister E.V. Velu recently reviewed the ongoing construction works along with Mangat Ram Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary of PWD, and senior officials. The minister emphasized that the project will not only showcase Tamil Nadu’s engineering capabilities but also strengthen its reputation as a hub for global conferences and cultural exchange.

Once operational, the Kalaignar International Convention Centre is expected to play a vital role in promoting business tourism, trade expos, entertainment events, and international summits, contributing significantly to the region’s economic growth. The facility will also create new opportunities for hospitality, transport, and real estate sectors, boosting overall development in and around Muttukadu and the Chennai–Mahabalipuram corridor.

Designed with sustainability and modern architecture in mind, the convention centre will stand as a landmark reflecting Tamil Nadu’s commitment to infrastructure excellence and cultural progress. With its grand scale and global outlook, the project marks a defining step toward positioning Chennai among the top destinations for world-class events.
