Ambuja Cement is preparing for another major phase of capacity expansion, with plans to add nearly 30 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to its cement manufacturing network by the end of FY30. The proposed expansion is expected to take the company’s consolidated cement capacity to 155 MTPA, strengthening its presence across some of India’s fastest-growing construction and infrastructure markets.

The company has firmed up an expansion programme of 29.7 MTPA, supported by an estimated investment of ₹14,500 crore. The planned additions will cover multiple states, including Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, Bihar, Jharkhand and Assam. The strategy focuses on bringing production closer to major consumption centres, where housing, commercial construction and infrastructure development are expected to support long-term cement demand.

Ambuja Cement’s existing manufacturing footprint has already expanded following the commissioning of two recent projects. A 2.4 MTPA grinding unit at Salai Banwa in Uttar Pradesh and a 1 MTPA facility at Kalamboli in Maharashtra have helped raise its consolidated cement capacity to 113.45 MTPA as of September 2026. The company had reported capacity of around 109 MTPA in FY26.

The latest expansion plan builds on this operational growth and signals the company’s intention to strengthen its position in the increasingly competitive Indian cement market. Regional grinding units can help manufacturers reduce transportation distances, improve delivery timelines and serve dealers and construction projects more efficiently. For a product such as cement, where freight accounts for a significant part of the delivered cost, the location of manufacturing facilities can influence competitiveness.

The proposed additions also come amid continued capacity expansion among India’s leading cement producers. Companies are investing in new plants and grinding facilities to prepare for demand from highways, housing, industrial development and large infrastructure projects.

Ambuja Cement’s financial performance provides further context to its expansion plans. In the first quarter of FY27, the company reported consolidated revenue of ₹9,500 crore and operating EBITDA of ₹1,589 crore.

However, execution will remain important. Timely project completion, regulatory clearances, raw material availability and movements in fuel and freight costs could influence the pace and returns of the expansion.

With existing capacity at 113.45 MTPA and a target of 155 MTPA by FY30, Ambuja Cement is positioning itself for a larger role in India’s cement industry. The coming years will show how effectively the company converts its planned investments into operating capacity and sustained market growth.
