Ambuja Cements has strengthened its cement manufacturing footprint in Gujarat with the commissioning of a 1.2 million tonnes per annum brownfield expansion at its grinding unit in Dahej.
The capacity addition, commissioned through Adani Cement Industries Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Ambuja Cements, takes the company’s consolidated cement capacity to 110 million tonnes per annum. The development comes as the cement major continues to expand its manufacturing base to cater to rising demand across India.
The Dahej expansion is a brownfield project, meaning the additional capacity has been developed at an existing manufacturing location rather than through an entirely new plant. This allows the company to build on its existing infrastructure and operating ecosystem while increasing production capacity.
For Ambuja Cements, the addition is significant from a regional perspective. Gujarat remains an important market for construction activity and infrastructure development, while Dahej is also a major industrial and logistics location. Higher grinding capacity in the region can support the company’s ability to serve nearby markets more efficiently.
The latest commissioning also adds to Ambuja Cements’ broader capacity expansion strategy. The company has been investing in increasing its production footprint as cement demand remains closely linked to infrastructure spending, housing construction, urban development and industrial activity.
The consolidated capacity reaching 110 million tonnes per annum places Ambuja Cements among India’s largest cement producers by installed capacity. The company is part of the Adani Group’s cement business, which has been pursuing an aggressive expansion strategy in the domestic market.
The Dahej project is therefore more than a standalone capacity addition. It forms part of the larger effort to strengthen regional manufacturing capabilities while improving the company’s ability to respond to demand growth.
With the new capacity operational, the focus will now shift towards ramping up utilisation and integrating the additional output into Ambuja Cements’ wider distribution network. The company’s continued capacity expansion will also be closely watched as India’s construction and infrastructure sectors maintain their demand for cement.
For Gujarat’s cement market, the Dahej expansion adds another sizeable production base and strengthens Ambuja Cements’ presence in an important industrial corridor.
