
Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies has commissioned its Customer Qualification Plant (CQP) at its Giga Corridor in Telangana, marking a significant milestone in the company’s ambition to establish large-scale lithium-ion cell manufacturing in India. The newly operational facility has been developed with an investment of ₹500 crore and is expected to play a crucial role in bridging the gap between laboratory research and commercial battery production.
The Customer Qualification Plant has been commissioned with an initial manufacturing capacity of 60 megawatt-hours (MWh). Unlike conventional production facilities, the plant is designed to manufacture battery cells that customers can test, validate and qualify before the company begins full-scale commercial production. The first batch of lithium-ion cells is expected to be supplied to customers from August 2026.
The investment forms part of Amara Raja’s Phase-I development of its Telangana Giga Corridor, where the company has already committed more than ₹1,500 crore under its larger ₹9,500 crore investment programme. The company plans to commence production at its first commercial-scale 2 GWh lithium-ion cell manufacturing facility, Giga 1, next year.
One of the key strengths of the Customer Qualification Plant is its flexible manufacturing capability. The facility can produce both cylindrical and prismatic lithium-ion cells across multiple battery chemistries. This allows Amara Raja to validate different production processes and customer requirements before transferring them to commercial manufacturing lines, thereby reducing operational risks during scale-up.
The commissioning further strengthens Telangana’s position as an emerging hub for advanced energy storage manufacturing. The state government has been actively promoting investments in electric mobility, battery manufacturing and clean energy technologies, creating an ecosystem that supports innovation, skilled employment and industrial growth.
Industry experts believe facilities such as the Customer Qualification Plant are essential for developing a reliable domestic battery supply chain. As demand for electric vehicles, renewable energy storage and advanced energy solutions continues to rise, India is steadily building its manufacturing capabilities to reduce import dependence and support the country’s clean energy transition. Amara Raja’s latest milestone is expected to accelerate that journey while reinforcing the company’s long-term strategy in advanced battery technologies.
