Caterpillar has expanded its construction equipment portfolio in India with the launch of three machines aimed at mining, heavy infrastructure and road construction applications. The Cat 355 Hydraulic Excavator, Cat D5 Dozer and Cat 120 GC Motor Grader were introduced at Bauma CONEXPO India 2026.

The new machines are positioned for projects where productivity, durability, fuel efficiency and ease of maintenance are important considerations. Caterpillar said the equipment is designed to address different operating requirements, ranging from demanding quarry and mining sites to road construction and maintenance.

Cat 355 targets demanding mining applications

The Cat 355 Hydraulic Excavator has been developed for severe quarry and mining applications. It combines a Cat C13B engine with an electrohydraulic system and enhanced stability to support high production requirements.

The 355 WVG configuration features a 4,040 mm-wide undercarriage, providing additional stability during heavy-duty operations. Customers can also configure the machine with an optional 4.0 cubic metre severe-duty bucket or a 4.5 cubic metre heavy-duty bucket.

Three work modes allow operators to match machine performance with the application. Caterpillar’s smart mode automatically balances engine and hydraulic power, with the aim of improving fuel efficiency.

The machine also incorporates features designed to reduce maintenance downtime, including extended filter life, synchronised maintenance intervals, ground-level service points, automatic fan cleaning and onboard maintenance tracking.

Cat D5 Dozer focuses on productivity

The Cat D5 Dozer is aimed at mining and heavy infrastructure applications. It uses a Cat C7.1 engine and fully automatic transmission, with a 170 hp electronic engine and differential steering.

A larger 4.3 cubic metre SU blade allows the machine to move higher material volumes, while available technology features and VPAT blade options support precision across different applications.

Caterpillar has also focused on serviceability, with grouped service points, extended filter life and easier access to maintenance areas. The elevated sprocket undercarriage and modular component design are intended to simplify servicing and repairs.

Cat 120 GC designed for road work

For road construction and maintenance, Caterpillar has introduced the Cat 120 GC Motor Grader. The machine is designed for low- to medium-duty applications, including rural road maintenance and finish grading.

Powered by a Cat C4.4 engine, the 120 GC combines a powershift transmission with electronic throttle control. Its standard eco mode is designed to support fuel-conscious operation.

The machine also offers features such as a digital blade slope meter, all-wheel drive, reversing fan and multiple moldboard widths, depending on application requirements.

Caterpillar Sales Director Gurman Reen said the three machines are intended to support customers as infrastructure activity expands, with technology, services and financing forming part of the company’s broader equipment offering.
