JSW Rayalaseema Steel Plant is finally moving towards execution in Andhra Pradesh’s Kadapa district, turning a long pending industrial dream of the Rayalaseema region into reality. The integrated steel project will come up at Sunnapurallapalli village in Jammalamadugu constituency and construction activities are expected to begin within the next three weeks.

The project will be developed in phases with a total planned investment of ₹16,350 crore. In the first phase, JSW Steel will invest ₹4,500 crore to establish the initial manufacturing infrastructure and create around 1,000 jobs. The second phase will see an additional investment of ₹11,850 crore, generating another 1,500 employment opportunities and increasing the plant’s overall production capacity to 2 million tonnes per annum.

The Andhra Pradesh government has already completed major infrastructure preparations for the project. These include a 400 kV double circuit power transmission line from the Jammalamadugu substation, assured water supply from the Gandikota reservoir, a four lane road connectivity from NH 67 to the project site and a dedicated railway line connecting the plant with Muddanur railway station.

Environmental clearance for the project has also been granted. The land earlier held by the YSR Steel Corporation has now been officially transferred to JSW Rayalaseema Steel Plant Limited.

The upcoming steel facility is expected to significantly boost industrial development in the backward Rayalaseema region while creating large scale direct and indirect employment opportunities. Industry observers believe the project could also attract ancillary industries, logistics investments and engineering support services around Kadapa district.

The steel plant project has witnessed several delays and multiple foundation stone ceremonies since 2007 under different governments. However, with approvals and infrastructure now in place, the project is finally entering the construction stage. Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is also expected to visit Kadapa during the official commencement of construction works.
