India No 1 cement major UltraTech Cement has phased out the legacy brands of its subsidiary India Cements starting April 1. Iconic names like Sankar and Coromandel and Raasi are being folded into a single unified UltraTech branding strategy. This move marks the closure for some of South India most recognizable cement labels which were long associated with major infrastructure and housing projects. This is the first significant change implemented by UltraTech after it acquired the over seventy year old cement giant in 2024. The brand strategy comes at a time when India Cements is witnessing a business turnaround and all plants are operating at high capacity.

Sources indicate that UltraTech will progressively transition all products to its flagship brand name. The intent is to simplify the brand architecture and drive stronger recall under a single name while leveraging massive scale. This shift happens just as the Aditya Birla Group along with partners acquired the IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The group plans to use the RCB brand and its famous players to market its wider building materials portfolio. This includes products like cement and paints and cables. They aim to strengthen engagement with dealers and consumers through digital and on ground campaigns.

The transition draws the curtain on brands that helped build some of Indias most iconic structures. Sankar Cement was used in projects such as the Idukki Dam and Adur Bridge and Pamban Bridge. It also contributed to the Manimuthar Dam and Vivekananda Rock Memorial and the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant. Even buildings for the RBI and IIT in Chennai relied on these materials. Coromandel Cement was essential for modern infrastructure like the Infosys campus in Bengaluru and the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

The rejig also discontinues Conkrete Super King which was a premium brand launched in 2022 to capitalize on the Chennai Super Kings and MS Dhoni. While these regional names with deep history are fading UltraTech is betting on a sharper focused brand. High visibility marketing will help the company consolidate its market leadership and create a powerful pan India presence for the future.
