Telangana Approves ₹2,278 Crore Adilabad Joint User Airfield to Boost Aviation, Logistics and Industrial Growth

The Telangana government has taken a major step towards strengthening aviation infrastructure in the state by granting administrative approval for the development of the Adilabad Joint User Airfield at an estimated cost of ₹2,278 crore. The project is expected to transform north Telangana into an emerging aviation and logistics hub while supporting industrial growth, cargo movement and regional connectivity.

Planned across 2,009 acres, the project has been designed as a joint-use facility that will serve both defence and civil aviation requirements. Of the total land, 1,609 acres have been allocated to the Indian Air Force, while the remaining 400 acres will be developed as a dedicated civil aviation enclave.

According to the state government, the civil aviation component will include a Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) facility, aircraft hangars, a cargo terminal and adequate space for future expansion. These facilities are expected to improve aircraft maintenance capabilities, strengthen cargo operations and attract aviation-related investments into the region.

Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy said the project is expected to become a strategic infrastructure asset for Telangana. Apart from improving air connectivity, the development is likely to support manufacturing, logistics, tourism and defence activities while generating significant direct and indirect employment opportunities.

To ensure timely execution, the government has also approved several enabling infrastructure works. These include road realignment, relocation of 765 kV high-tension transmission lines, shifting of Mission Bhagiratha pipelines and the movement of other public utilities that may affect construction activities. The Telangana government will bear the entire cost of land acquisition and utility relocation.

District authorities have been directed to complete land acquisition and utility shifting by December 31, 2026, paving the way for early construction.

The Adilabad Joint User Airfield is expected to play an important role in balancing regional development across Telangana by improving connectivity in the northern districts. Once completed, the project is anticipated to attract new investments, strengthen logistics infrastructure and create a long-term foundation for economic growth across the region.
