Karnataka Cabinet Clears ₹307 Crore Revamp of Bengaluru’s Outer Ring Road Stretch

The Karnataka government has given a major boost to Bengaluru’s urban road infrastructure by approving a ₹307 crore revamp of the Outer Ring Road stretch between Silk Board junction and KR Pura metro station. The decision, cleared by the state cabinet, covers a length of 17.01 km and focuses on addressing long standing traffic and infrastructure challenges on one of the city’s most congested corridors.

The Outer Ring Road is a critical arterial route that connects several major residential and commercial hubs, including prominent IT clusters and business districts. Over the years, rapid urban growth and rising vehicle numbers have put immense pressure on this stretch, leading to frequent traffic bottlenecks, damaged road surfaces and inadequate pedestrian facilities. The approved redevelopment aims to resolve these issues through comprehensive upgrades.

According to officials, the project will include strengthening of the road surface, improvement of stormwater drainage systems, better footpaths and safer pedestrian crossings. Attention will also be given to improving overall road geometry to ensure smoother traffic flow during peak hours. Once completed, the upgraded stretch is expected to significantly reduce travel time for thousands of commuters who rely on this corridor every day.

Urban planners believe the revamp will also complement Bengaluru’s expanding metro network, particularly with KR Pura emerging as an important transit hub. Improved road conditions around metro stations are expected to encourage greater use of public transport and support last mile connectivity.

The project is part of the state government’s broader push to modernise Bengaluru’s infrastructure and improve quality of life for residents. With the city continuing to attract investment and talent, upgrading core transport corridors has become a priority to sustain economic growth.

Officials indicated that work on the project is expected to begin soon, following completion of tendering and administrative formalities. Once implemented, the revamped Outer Ring Road stretch is likely to bring long term relief to commuters while strengthening Bengaluru’s overall urban mobility framework.
