JSW Steel Begins Work on ₹16,350 Crore Rayalaseema Integrated Steel Project in Andhra Pradesh

JSW Steel has officially commenced development activities for its proposed ₹16,350 crore integrated steel project in Andhra Pradesh’s Rayalaseema region, marking another major milestone in India’s expanding steel manufacturing sector. The project is expected to strengthen the state’s industrial ecosystem while supporting the country’s growing demand for sustainable steel production.

The integrated steel complex is being developed through JSW Rayalaseema Steel Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of JSW Steel. The project will be implemented in two phases, with the first phase involving an investment of ₹4,500 crore to establish a one million tonne per annum (1 MTPA) integrated steel plant. The second phase will add another one million tonnes of annual production capacity through an additional investment of up to ₹11,850 crore, taking the total project investment to ₹16,350 crore.

The commencement ceremony was attended by Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, JSW Group Chairman and Managing Director Sajjan Jindal, senior government officials, and industry representatives.

Speaking on the occasion, Sajjan Jindal said the Rayalaseema Steel Project reflects JSW’s long-term confidence in Andhra Pradesh’s industrial and economic potential. He added that the company is committed to supporting the state’s manufacturing-led growth and creating globally competitive industrial capabilities.

According to JSW Steel, the new facility will manufacture low-carbon structural steel primarily for infrastructure and construction applications. The plant will utilise Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) technology, supported by recycled steel scrap and high-grade Direct Reduced Iron (DRI), enabling lower carbon emissions compared to conventional steelmaking methods.

The company also plans to integrate energy-efficient manufacturing systems and gradually increase the use of renewable energy across the facility to reduce its overall carbon footprint.

Jayant Acharya, Joint Managing Director and CEO of JSW Steel, said the project aligns with the company’s long-term strategy of building future-ready manufacturing assets while supporting regional industrial development and enhancing India’s steelmaking capabilities.

With large-scale investments continuing across India’s steel sector, the Rayalaseema project is expected to create significant employment opportunities, strengthen the regional supply chain, and contribute to Andhra Pradesh’s vision of becoming a leading manufacturing destination.
