JSW Steel reported a 5% year-on-year increase in consolidated crude steel production to 7.27 million tonnes in the Second Quarter of Financial Year 2026–27, with Indian operations accounting for the bulk of the output. Production also rose 10% compared with the previous quarter, according to the company’s exchange filing dated October 8, 2026.
Indian operations produced 7.07 million tonnes of crude steel during the quarter, marking a 5% increase over the corresponding period last year. Output was also higher than the 6.35 million tonnes recorded in the First Quarter of Financial Year 2026–27, representing sequential growth of approximately 11%.
Capacity utilisation at the company’s Indian facilities stood at 88% during the quarter. The company also reported an improvement in utilisation during September 2026, when operating levels reached around 90%.
The improvement followed the gradual ramp-up of the BF3 blast furnace at its Vijayanagar facility. The furnace had undergone a shutdown for capacity upgradation, and the subsequent increase in operating levels supported production during September.
Outside India, JSW Steel’s operations in the United States contributed 0.20 million tonnes of crude steel during the quarter. The figures underline the contribution of domestic operations to the company’s overall production performance.
First-half production records growth
For the six months ended September 2026, JSW Steel recorded consolidated crude steel production of 13.86 million tonnes, up 4% from 13.32 million tonnes in the corresponding period of the previous financial year.
Indian operations contributed 13.41 million tonnes during the First Half of Financial Year 2026–27, also registering 4% year-on-year growth. The increase indicates that the company maintained production growth through the first six months of the financial year.
JSW Steel clarified that its year-ago production figures had been adjusted to enable a like-for-like comparison following the transfer of the steel business undertaking of Bhushan Power and Steel to JSW-JFE Steel in March 2026.
The latest production update provides an indication of operating performance ahead of the company’s detailed quarterly financial results. Profitability, however, will also depend on steel realisations, raw material costs and other operating expenses, none of which were quantified in the production update.
With Indian operations accounting for 7.07 million tonnes of quarterly output, the gradual improvement in capacity utilisation at Vijayanagar remains an important operational development to watch in the coming months.
