Indian Hotels Company Limited (IHCL) has announced the signing of Tree of Life Kanadukathan, a new heritage boutique hotel in the culturally rich Chettinad region of Tamil Nadu. The project marks another step in the hospitality company’s strategy to expand into destination-led leisure markets while preserving India’s architectural heritage.
The upcoming property will be developed in partnership with AMPA Group through the restoration of a traditional Chettiar mansion in Kanadukathan. Once completed, the restored property will feature 20 guest rooms, offering visitors an immersive heritage stay that reflects the distinctive architecture and cultural identity of Chettinad.
The boutique hotel will include an all-day dining restaurant, a lounge, a swimming pool, a spa and a modern fitness centre. By combining heritage restoration with contemporary hospitality facilities, the project aims to attract both domestic and international travellers seeking authentic cultural experiences.
Kanadukathan has long been recognised as one of the most prominent heritage destinations in Tamil Nadu. The town is known for its grand Chettiar mansions, unique architecture, traditional cuisine and vibrant festivals, including the Chettinad Heritage Festival, Aadi Perukku and Navaratri celebrations. These attractions continue to draw visitors interested in history, culture and regional traditions.
For IHCL, the project also represents the expansion of its Tree of Life brand into an emerging heritage tourism destination. The company believes the growing demand for experiential travel is creating new opportunities for boutique hotels that celebrate local culture while offering premium hospitality services.
The signing also strengthens the long-standing partnership between IHCL and AMPA Group, with both organisations focusing on developing hospitality projects that preserve heritage assets while supporting tourism-led economic growth.
Following this addition, IHCL’s portfolio in Tamil Nadu will expand to 33 hotels, including 14 properties currently under development. The growing pipeline reflects the company’s continued investment in the state’s tourism sector and reinforces Tamil Nadu’s position as one of India’s leading destinations for heritage, leisure and cultural travel.
As heritage tourism gains momentum across India, projects such as Tree of Life Kanadukathan are expected to play an important role in preserving historic landmarks while creating new opportunities for sustainable tourism and local economic development.
