The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has approved a ₹630 crore infrastructure project aimed at resolving a long-standing connectivity gap between two key national highways in Andhra Pradesh. The project will provide a direct link between National Highway 216 and National Highway 65, significantly improving road access across the Konaseema region.
For decades, the Konaseema belt, earlier part of the undivided East Godavari district, remained split by the absence of a direct highway connection. Although both NH-216 and NH-65 pass through the region on opposite sides, the lack of a seamless link led to longer travel times, traffic congestion, and logistical inefficiencies. Ravulapalem, despite being integrated into the national highway network, continued to face connectivity challenges due to this missing link.
The newly approved road project is expected to transform regional mobility by easing travel between Ravulapalem and Amalapuram. Officials said the improved connectivity will reduce commute time for daily travellers and enhance the movement of goods, particularly agricultural produce, seafood, and business-related consignments. The region is known for its agrarian economy, and better road infrastructure is expected to support farmers and traders alike.
As part of the project, land will be acquired from 727 farmers across 22 villages. Authorities have stated that the road will be widened and upgraded to handle future traffic growth, ensuring long-term sustainability. The design focuses on relieving daily congestion while accommodating increasing vehicular movement linked to economic expansion.
Beyond immediate travel benefits, the project is also expected to act as a catalyst for local economic development. Improved highway connectivity often attracts investments in logistics, warehousing, and allied services, creating employment opportunities and strengthening regional supply chains. Local businesses are expected to benefit from faster access to markets and ports.
The approval reflects the Centre’s broader push to strengthen last-mile and inter-highway connectivity across states. Once completed, the NH-216–NH-65 link is expected to play a key role in improving transport efficiency in coastal Andhra Pradesh, supporting economic growth and enhancing the quality of life for residents in the Konaseema region.
