The Supreme Court has upheld the land acquisition carried out for Baldota Group’s proposed ₹54,000 crore integrated steel plant in Karnataka, clearing a major hurdle for one of the state’s biggest industrial projects. The verdict supports the acquisition process undertaken by the Karnataka Industrial Areas Development Board (KIADB) for the project located in Koppal district.

In an official statement, the company said the apex court found the entire acquisition process to be lawful and aligned with the intended industrial purpose. The ruling is expected to provide momentum for the development of the integrated steel project, which is being seen as a significant investment for Karnataka’s industrial growth and employment generation.

Baldota Group stated that it is the lawful custodian of the acquired land and will continue to oversee its development, management and safety. The company also highlighted that an operational pellet plant is already functioning within the project premises, with regular truck movement and nearly 800 personnel working at the facility.

According to the company, the project area includes the vicinity of Basapur lake and the entire land parcel forms part of the legally acquired property, as confirmed by the Supreme Court verdict. The company further warned that any unauthorised entry into the project site would be considered trespassing and may invite legal action under applicable laws.

Industry observers believe the verdict could accelerate infrastructure development linked to the project and strengthen Karnataka’s position as a key destination for large-scale steel and manufacturing investments. The integrated steel plant is expected to create substantial direct and indirect employment opportunities while supporting the growth of ancillary industries in the region.

The judgment also comes at a time when several states are competing to attract large industrial investments in the steel and manufacturing sectors. With legal clarity now established, the Baldota project is likely to move ahead with greater confidence and faster execution in the coming years.
