Century Plyboards has commenced commercial production at its new plywood manufacturing facility in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, adding 60,000 CBM of annual capacity as the company strengthens its presence in northern India.

Century Plyboards (India) Limited has started commercial production at its greenfield plywood manufacturing facility in Hoshiarpur, Punjab. The new plant, developed with an investment of ₹215 crore, adds an annual production capacity of 60,000 cubic metres (CBM) to the company’s manufacturing network.

The commissioning marks another step in the company’s efforts to expand production closer to major consumption markets. With the Hoshiarpur facility now operational, Century Plyboards is better positioned to serve customers across Punjab, Haryana, Delhi-NCR and Rajasthan.

The location is strategically important for plywood manufacturers, given the demand generated by residential construction, commercial property development, interior projects and furniture manufacturing across northern India. Establishing production capacity closer to these markets can help companies improve supply chain efficiency and respond more quickly to changing customer requirements.

For Century Plyboards, the additional capacity provides an opportunity to strengthen its distribution network and improve product availability through its dealer channels. Local manufacturing can also help reduce the time and logistical costs involved in transporting products from facilities located in other regions.

The investment comes amid growing competition in India’s organised wood panel industry. Branded manufacturers are seeking to expand their reach as consumers increasingly look for consistent product quality, reliable supply and established brands. Demand from housing, renovation and commercial interior projects remains an important driver for the plywood segment.

However, the pace at which the new facility reaches its planned production levels will be an important factor to watch. Raw material prices, particularly timber and resin, can influence manufacturing costs and operating margins. Demand conditions in the regional housing and commercial construction markets will also play a role in determining how quickly the additional capacity is absorbed.

The Hoshiarpur project follows other capacity expansion initiatives by Century Plyboards. The company has also commissioned a continuous particle board plant in Chennai and expanded its brownfield plywood capacity from 8,000 CBM to 10,000 CBM per month.

With the Hoshiarpur unit now commercially operational, Century Plyboards is adding another manufacturing base to support its growth ambitions. The facility is expected to strengthen its northern India presence, while its contribution to overall business performance will depend on production ramp-up and market demand in the coming quarters.
