Ultraviolette to set up BIGGA Factory in Tamil Nadu’s Shoolagiri

Ultraviolette is expanding its manufacturing footprint beyond Bengaluru with plans to establish the BIGGA (Big Global Ambition) Factory at SIPCOT Industrial Park in Shoolagiri, Tamil Nadu. The move comes as the electric vehicle maker prepares to scale production and build capacity for its growing product portfolio.

The company had earlier signed a memorandum of understanding with the Tamil Nadu government to invest ₹779 crore and create 4,000 jobs. The investment will be implemented in phases, with the initial phase of the new facility expected to generate around 2,000 employment opportunities.

The Shoolagiri facility will manufacture Ultraviolette’s Tesseract electric scooter and is also being designed to accommodate future products across segments including sports, crossover, cruiser, street motorcycles and scooters. The company sees the facility as an important step in expanding its presence in both the Indian and international markets.

Industry 4.0 at the centre of the new facility

The BIGGA Factory is being planned as a technology-led manufacturing facility, with Industry 4.0 principles built into its production systems. Advanced automation, digital quality systems and real-time production monitoring will form part of the manufacturing setup.

Ultraviolette plans to deploy a Manufacturing Execution System (MES) for production tracking and traceability. Collaborative robots are also expected to support processes such as sorting, welding and assembly, alongside automated assembly checks and vision-based inspection systems.

A dedicated test track will allow vehicles to undergo evaluation before they are dispatched, with the company focusing on consistency, performance and quality throughout the manufacturing process.

Shoolagiri strengthens Ultraviolette’s manufacturing base

The choice of Shoolagiri places the new facility within one of Tamil Nadu’s established automotive manufacturing ecosystems. Its proximity to Bengaluru, where Ultraviolette operates its existing manufacturing and research and development facilities, is another strategic advantage.

The Bengaluru facility will continue its regular operations after the BIGGA Factory becomes operational. Together, the two locations are expected to strengthen Ultraviolette’s manufacturing and technology capabilities.

The company is backed by investors including Lingotto, TDK Ventures, Qualcomm Ventures, Zoho Corporation, TVS Motor and Speciale Invest. With the Shoolagiri facility, Ultraviolette is looking to move from being a performance-focused electric mobility company to a manufacturer capable of operating at significantly larger scale.

The project also adds to Tamil Nadu’s growing electric vehicle manufacturing ecosystem, with the State attracting investments from several EV and automotive companies.
