Agastya Green Energy Plans ₹7,800 Crore Solar Manufacturing Expansion in Kurnool

Agastya Green Energy is planning a major expansion of its solar manufacturing operations in Andhra Pradesh, with an investment of approximately ₹7,800 crore in Kurnool’s Orvakal Industrial Area.

The project will add 12 GW of ingot and 12 GW of wafer manufacturing capacity to the company’s existing solar cell and module production capabilities. The expansion is expected to strengthen Agastya Energy’s presence across the solar manufacturing value chain, from upstream materials to finished photovoltaic products.

The proposed investment comes as India continues to build domestic manufacturing capacity for renewable energy equipment. By adding ingot and wafer production, Agastya Energy aims to increase domestic value addition and reduce dependence on imported components used in solar manufacturing.

The Kurnool project is expected to create more than 3,500 jobs. It will also bring together different parts of the company’s business, including manufacturing, independent power generation and engineering, procurement and construction operations.

For Agastya Energy, the expansion represents the next stage of its strategy to develop an integrated solar manufacturing platform in India. The new facilities are expected to complement its existing capabilities in solar cells and modules while creating operational synergies across the business.

The company has also highlighted the role of the Andhra Pradesh government in supporting large-scale manufacturing and renewable energy investments. The project is being positioned as part of the state’s broader effort to attract investment and expand its industrial and clean-energy base.

The planned facilities in the Orvakal Industrial Area would make Kurnool an important location in Agastya Energy’s manufacturing network. With ingot, wafer, cell and module production brought together within its broader strategy, the company expects to have greater control over its photovoltaic supply chain.

The investment also comes at a time when solar power capacity and demand for domestically manufactured renewable-energy equipment are increasing. For manufacturers, developing upstream capabilities can help improve supply-chain resilience while providing greater scope for value addition within the country.

Agastya Energy said the new investment is intended to support India’s growing renewable-energy requirements while developing manufacturing capabilities that can compete in global markets. The company’s focus will now be on executing the planned capacity expansion and building the integrated production ecosystem around its Kurnool operations.
