Highway Infrastructure Ltd has secured an ₹80.17-crore contract from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) to manage toll collection at Palayam Fee Plaza on National Highway 44 in Tamil Nadu.

The company received the Letter of Acceptance from NHAI on August 17, 2026. Under the agreement, Highway Infrastructure will act as the user fee collection agency at Palayam Fee Plaza, located at kilometre 154+500 of NH-44. The contract was awarded through the e-quotation and e-tender process.

The project covers the Krishnagiri–Thumbipadi section of NH-44, stretching from kilometre 94+000 to kilometre 180+000. The road section is being developed under the Build-Operate-Transfer model, making the toll plaza an important point for revenue collection along the highway corridor.

The contract is valued at ₹80,16,99,930 and has an execution period of 90 days. Along with collecting user fees, the scope of work includes the upkeep and maintenance of toilets located adjacent to the fee plaza. The company will also be responsible for replenishing consumable items required for their upkeep.

The latest order adds to Highway Infrastructure’s growing presence in highway toll operations in Tamil Nadu. The company had recently secured another NHAI toll collection contract for the Kozhinjipatti Fee Plaza, further expanding its role in managing fee collection facilities along important road corridors in the state.

For Highway Infrastructure, the Palayam contract provides near-term revenue visibility while adding another operational assignment to its toll management portfolio. However, the relatively short 90-day tenure means that mobilisation, traffic management and cost control will be important factors during the execution period.

The Palayam Fee Plaza is positioned along NH-44, one of the major national highway corridors connecting important parts of southern India. Efficient toll collection at such locations is closely linked to the smooth movement of traffic and the functioning of highway infrastructure.

The contract comes at a time when highway operations and toll collection are becoming an increasingly important part of India’s road infrastructure ecosystem. As the national highway network expands, specialised operators are taking on greater responsibility for fee collection, facility upkeep and related operational services.

For Highway Infrastructure, the new Tamil Nadu assignment strengthens its presence in this segment and provides an opportunity to build on its recent NHAI wins. The performance of the Palayam operation over the next three months will be closely watched as the company works to execute the contract within its defined timeframe.
