Andhra Pradesh Plans Three Greenfield Airports With ₹5,545 Crore Investment

Andhra Pradesh is advancing plans for three proposed greenfield airports in Amaravati, Kuppam and Srikakulam, as the State looks to strengthen regional air connectivity and support emerging industrial and logistics corridors.

Preliminary plans for the three projects put their combined estimated cost at ₹5,545 crore. The airports are being proposed at different locations across the State, with each project expected to serve a distinct regional requirement.

The proposed Amaravati airport, near Mangalagiri, is planned as a major aviation gateway for the State capital region. The project is expected to improve connectivity for Amaravati, Mangalagiri, Guntur and surrounding areas while reducing dependence on Vijayawada’s Gannavaram airport as traffic grows.

The Amaravati project has an estimated cost of ₹4,419 crore and covers around 4,618 acres. The proposal is being considered under a public-private partnership model.

In the southern part of the State, the proposed Kuppam airport in Chittoor district is expected to support industrial and logistics activity near the borders of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The location could be particularly relevant for manufacturing sectors such as electronics and automobiles, while also improving access to agricultural and horticultural markets.

The Kuppam project is estimated at ₹734 crore and covers around 1,788 acres. Land acquisition for the proposed airport has already moved forward in parts of the identified area.

The third proposal is for an airport in Srikakulam district, aimed at strengthening air connectivity in North Andhra. The project is linked to the region’s wider infrastructure development, including the emerging Mulapeta Greenfield Port.

The Srikakulam airport has an estimated cost of ₹392 crore and requires around 1,185.86 acres. The proposal envisages cooperation with the Airports Authority of India.

Together, the three projects could create new links between aviation, manufacturing, tourism and logistics. However, they remain proposed projects and will require the necessary clearances, detailed project development and further execution steps before construction can progress fully.

For Andhra Pradesh, the larger objective is to build a more distributed aviation network rather than concentrate air traffic around a few established airports. If implemented, the three projects could provide additional connectivity for industrial clusters, businesses, tourists and regional communities across the State.
