The Andhra Pradesh Capital Region Development Authority (APCRDA) has taken another step towards building a sustainable and technology-driven capital city by exploring the implementation of district cooling systems and advanced utility infrastructure for Amaravati.

In collaboration with the Indian Plumbing Association (IPA) Amaravati Chapter and ISHRAE Vijayawada Chapter, APCRDA recently organised a technical session focused on “District Cooling for Amaravati.” The event brought together more than 150 officials, consultants, contractors and infrastructure experts to discuss innovative solutions that can support the long-term growth of the state capital.

The session highlighted the importance of integrated infrastructure planning, particularly in the areas of energy efficiency, utility management and sustainable urban development. Experts presented global case studies and successful district cooling projects that have helped cities reduce energy consumption, lower operating costs and improve environmental performance.

APCRDA Commissioner V. Vijay Rama Raju emphasised that Amaravati’s development as a smart and future-ready capital city requires coordinated planning from the initial design stage. He noted that infrastructure systems such as cooling networks, wastewater management and building services should be integrated early to ensure efficient operations and long-term sustainability.

Technical experts discussed district cooling technology, HVAC integration, advanced pumping systems, plumbing standards and wastewater management solutions. These systems are expected to play a crucial role in improving resource efficiency across residential, commercial and institutional developments in Amaravati.

The workshop also underscored the growing global trend of adopting sustainable urban infrastructure solutions. District cooling systems, which provide centralized cooling to multiple buildings, have been successfully implemented in several international cities and are increasingly being considered in large-scale urban developments across India.

Amaravati, planned as a greenfield capital city, continues to focus on modern infrastructure, smart technologies and environmentally responsible development practices. APCRDA officials stated that the authority will continue evaluating global best practices and innovative infrastructure models to ensure the city remains resilient, energy-efficient and prepared for future growth.

The initiative reflects Andhra Pradesh’s commitment to creating world-class urban infrastructure while balancing sustainability, efficiency and long-term economic development.
