The Centre is set to give its final approval to the ₹2,534 crore Common Central Secretariat project in Amaravati, marking a major step forward in the development of Andhra Pradesh’s capital city. According to reports, the Union Urban Development Ministry has already forwarded the detailed project report to the Union Cabinet for final clearance after receiving in-principle approval from the Finance Ministry.

The proposed project is expected to become one of the most significant administrative infrastructure developments in Amaravati’s ongoing master plan. Out of the total project cost, around ₹1,299.08 crore has been earmarked for the construction of the Secretariat complex, while ₹1,234.91 crore will be used for General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) meant for Central government employees.

The development will come up on a 22.53-acre site, with 5.53 acres allocated for the Secretariat buildings and the remaining 17 acres reserved for residential towers. The project aligns with the broader vision of transforming Amaravati into a world-class greenfield capital city, with a strong focus on sustainability, modern civic planning, and advanced infrastructure.

The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) will undertake the construction work, ensuring execution under central supervision and established engineering standards. The project is also expected to create substantial employment opportunities during the construction phase while stimulating local economic activity in and around Amaravati.

This approval is seen as a significant boost for the capital region, especially as the state government simultaneously moves ahead with its own Secretariat towers and other core infrastructure projects. Industry observers believe that the move could strengthen investor confidence and accelerate real estate as well as commercial development in the region.

With administrative infrastructure taking shape, Amaravati’s long-term vision as a planned capital city appears to be gaining renewed momentum.
