Hyderabad is set to witness a major infrastructure upgrade as the Telangana government plans to construct a double-decker elevated corridor along the busy NH-65 stretch between LB Nagar and Hayatnagar. The proposed 5.5-km project, estimated at ₹941 crore, aims to significantly reduce traffic congestion and improve mobility in one of the city’s most densely populated corridors.

According to officials, the project will adopt a three-tier design to maximise efficiency. The ground level will accommodate service roads, the middle deck will carry highway traffic, and the top level will be reserved for a Metro rail line. This integrated approach is expected to streamline vehicular movement while supporting public transport expansion.

The corridor is expected to benefit nearly 10 to 12 lakh residents across 60 to 70 colonies in Hyderabad’s eastern region. At present, limited crossing facilities and heavy traffic force commuters to take longer routes, often adding more than two kilometres to their daily travel. The new elevated structure aims to address these challenges by improving accessibility, reducing travel time and enhancing overall road safety.

The project will be jointly funded, with the central government contributing ₹741 crore, while the state government and Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited will share the remaining ₹200 crore. Proposals have already been submitted to the Centre, and approvals are expected soon. Once cleared, the tendering process will be initiated to begin construction.

In parallel, the government is also nearing completion of the ₹545 crore expansion of the LB Nagar–Malkapur stretch into a six-lane road, with around 80 percent of work already completed. Additional plans include a 1.2-km double-decker flyover between Madinaguda and BHEL, further strengthening regional connectivity.

Looking ahead, Telangana is focusing on large-scale road development under the Hybrid Annuity Model, with plans to upgrade thousands of kilometres of roads. These initiatives are expected to transform urban mobility, support economic growth and provide seamless connectivity across the state.
