CMRL Awards Rs 250 Crore Contract for 17 Metro Station Entry/Exit Structures

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has taken a major step to enhance commuter convenience and station infrastructure in Phase II of its network. The organization has awarded a Rs 250.47 crore contract to Bridge and Roof Company (India) Limited for the design and construction of 17 entry and exit structures across Corridor 3 stations, including Nehru Nagar, Kandanchavadi, Perungudi, Thoraipakkam, Mettukuppam, PTC Colony, Okkiyampet, Karapakkam, and Okkiyam Thoraipakkam.

The project covers comprehensive civil works, architectural finishes, and all associated construction activities. In addition to improving commuter access, the plan incorporates transit-oriented commercial spaces at most station entrances. These spaces are aimed at offering retail and service amenities for passengers while generating non-farebox revenue for CMRL, supporting long-term financial sustainability.

The agreement was formally signed by T Archunan, Director (Projects), CMRL, and T Ravi, General Manager (South), Bridge and Roof Company, in the presence of M A Siddique, Managing Director of CMRL, along with other senior officials and staff.

Once completed, the project is expected to provide seamless entry and exit facilities for daily commuters and enhance the overall passenger experience. The integration of commercial facilities will further make metro stations lively hubs, creating opportunities for retail and service businesses while improving urban mobility.

This initiative reflects CMRL’s commitment to modernizing Chennai’s metro infrastructure and ensuring that stations are not just transit points but integrated spaces that serve both functional and commercial purposes. With the development of Corridor 3 entry and exit structures, commuters can look forward to faster, safer, and more convenient access to metro services.

By combining efficient engineering, architectural design, and transit-oriented development, CMRL is setting new benchmarks for urban metro projects in India. The project also reinforces Chennai Metro’s focus on sustainable revenue streams, enhanced passenger amenities, and state-of-the-art infrastructure, contributing to the city’s growing public transport network.
