Pollachi–Dindigul Four-Lane Highway Nears Completion, Expected to Open by December

The much-awaited Pollachi–Dindigul four-lane highway project is nearing completion, with nearly 95% of the construction work already finished. Implemented under the Bharatmala Pariyojana scheme, this 131.96-km-long corridor aims to significantly enhance road connectivity between the western and southern regions of Tamil Nadu, benefiting thousands of commuters and transporters daily.

According to officials, the remaining works, including bridges, flyovers, and service roads, are progressing at a steady pace. The highway, once complete, is expected to decongest existing routes, cut down travel time considerably, and improve freight movement between Coimbatore, Pollachi, Palani, and Dindigul. If weather conditions remain favourable during the northeast monsoon, the project is expected to be fully operational by the end of December.

The Pollachi–Dindigul highway is a crucial stretch, forming part of the larger effort to upgrade national highways across Tamil Nadu under the Bharatmala initiative. The project includes modern safety features, well-designed intersections, and improved access roads to ensure smoother and safer travel. Local businesses and industries, especially those in agriculture and manufacturing, are expected to gain from faster logistics and improved connectivity.

Officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) have assured that finishing works are being carried out with top priority. Once operational, the new four-lane corridor will also help reduce vehicular load on alternate routes and contribute to the economic growth of towns along its alignment.

Residents of Pollachi, Udumalpet, and Palani have welcomed the progress, saying the highway will not only ease daily commutes but also boost tourism in nearby hill and temple towns. With only a small portion of the work pending, authorities remain confident that the Pollachi–Dindigul four-lane project will be ready for public use before the end of the year.
