Global vehicle supplier and tech leader ZF Group opened its 19th production facility globally and 11th in Tamil Nadu to grow its presence in the construction and rail segments.
Spreading over 10,000 square meters, the new Coimbatore manufacturing facility showcases ZF’s state-of-the-art production capabilities and ties in with its “Make in India for India and the World” strategy. This factory would be a centralized hub for manufacturing new-generation solutions tailor-made to India’s growing construction equipment sector and for export to foreign customers.
ZF Group has invested €20 million (around ₹192 crores) in this plant, projecting its presence in introducing state-of-the-art technology and products to India to fulfill India’s growing mobility needs. . The investment further consolidates ZF’s market leadership in India’s fast-developing construction and rail industries.
Dr. Peter Laier, Commercial Vehicle Solutions head and member of the ZF Group Board of Management, highlighted India’s strategic importance in the company’s global strategy: “This future-oriented plant affirms our global growth strategy and solidifies the commitment of ZF to pushing the limits of innovation in this important market.”
Akash Passey, ZF Group India President, said, “Our ‘Make in India for India and the World’ strategy unlocks the huge country potential and makes India a world manufacturing leader.”. We look to enable innovation and economic development with India’s potential. The Coimbatore plant will industrialize key products such as the ERGOPOWER M transmission an automatic powershift system optimized for various construction machinery. This transmission improves productivity and fuel efficiency by up to 15%, setting a benchmark in the industry.
Additionally, the plant will produce Multitrac series axles, designed for heavy-duty construction work. These axles combine high strength with compact design and include advanced braking systems that enhance efficiency.
ZF will also localize its EcoMet transmission for the Indian railway market at this facility. EcoMet’s modular design offers flexible, cost-effective metro gearbox solutions tailored to diverse customer needs.
Andreas Moser, EVP of industrial technologies, noted, “The Coimbatore plant, alongside our German hub, will meet domestic and export demand, supporting rapid urbanization and infrastructure development in India.”
This new manufacturing site strengthens ZF Group’s “local for local” strategy, supporting both India’s infrastructure ambitions and ZF’s global growth in emerging markets.
