UltraTech Cement, India’s leading cement and ready-mix concrete producer, is scaling up its adoption of electric vehicles (EV trucks) in logistics. The company has signed a contract to deploy 100 EV trucks to transport 75,000 MT of clinker monthly between Dhar Cement Works in Madhya Pradesh and Dhule Cement Works in Maharashtra, covering a 400-km round trip.

Replacing fossil fuel-based trucks, this initiative is expected to reduce transport-related emissions by 17,000 MT of CO2 annually. This significant step aligns with UltraTech’s commitment to achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.

The expansion follows a successful pilot in January 2024, where UltraTech introduced five EV trucks on the same route. This pilot included setting up charging infrastructure and training drivers, ensuring smooth operations. Encouraged by the results, UltraTech is now exploring additional routes and plans a similar pilot for clinker transport between two other manufacturing units.

Looking ahead, UltraTech aims to deploy 500 EV trucks by June 2025 under the Government of India’s eFAST initiative, reinforcing its holistic approach to sustainability.
