The Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) government held its first Cabinet meeting under the leadership of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, marking an important step in shaping the administration’s governance and development agenda for Tamil Nadu.

The meeting, held at the Secretariat in Chennai, reviewed 436 projects and welfare schemes across various departments. According to State Electricity Minister R. Nirmal Kumar, the discussions focused on implementing the party’s election promises while ensuring efficient governance and transparent administration.

Chief Minister Vijay reportedly instructed ministers to work closely with departmental officials and prepare detailed action plans to achieve the government’s development goals. He also emphasized the importance of delivering a corruption-free administration and ensuring that government services reach people effectively.

A significant portion of the discussions centred on projects aimed at improving opportunities for youth and women while strengthening social welfare initiatives. Ministers were assigned responsibility for projects related to their respective departments to ensure faster implementation and monitoring.

The Industries Department emerged as one of the key focus areas, with 37 projects reviewed during the meeting. These initiatives are expected to support industrial growth, attract investments, create employment opportunities and contribute to Tamil Nadu’s long-term economic development.

The Cabinet meeting also reviewed preparations for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly session, which is scheduled to commence with the Governor’s address. Discussions were held on measures to streamline governance and improve coordination among departments.

The new administration has indicated that economic development, employment generation, industrial expansion and transparent governance will remain among its top priorities. Officials are expected to submit detailed implementation reports in the coming weeks to help accelerate project execution.

The meeting signals the beginning of the TVK government’s efforts to translate its electoral commitments into actionable programmes while focusing on administrative reforms and development-oriented governance across Tamil Nadu.
