Telangana Plans 87 Acre Eco Town Waste Processing Hub Near Future City

The Telangana government is planning to develop an integrated waste processing facility near the proposed Future City region, marking an important step towards modern urban waste management in the Hyderabad metropolitan area. The project, referred to as an eco town, is expected to support the growing waste management needs of Hyderabad’s Core Urban Region.

The proposed facility will come up on around 87 acres of land owned by the Telangana Industrial Infrastructure Corporation at Siddapur village in Kothur mandal of Rangareddy district. The site is located outside the Outer Ring Road and has been planned as an advanced recycling and waste-to-resource management hub rather than a conventional solid waste dumping yard.

The eco town is expected to include modern processing plants for segregated solid waste and electronic waste. Officials have indicated that the initial phase may include a waste-to-energy facility that can use refuse-derived fuel from existing waste streams. This approach is aimed at improving processing efficiency while reducing dependence on traditional landfill-based disposal methods.

Hyderabad’s Core Urban Region, which includes the city’s three municipal corporations, continues to generate rising volumes of waste due to rapid urbanisation, population growth and expanding commercial activity. The proposed eco town is expected to help manage this pressure by creating dedicated infrastructure for scientific waste handling, recycling and resource recovery.

Authorities have clarified that the project may not immediately reduce the volume of waste reaching Jawahar Nagar, which currently handles a major share of the city’s waste. However, the new facility is expected to ease operational pressure over time by strengthening decentralised processing capacity and improving waste treatment systems.

The project also aligns with Telangana’s broader urban infrastructure strategy around Future City, where planned development is expected to create new demand for sustainable civic services. By integrating waste processing with recycling and energy recovery, the eco town could become a key environmental infrastructure asset for the region.

Once implemented, the facility is expected to support cleaner urban growth, improve waste management efficiency and help Hyderabad move towards a more sustainable and resource-conscious development model.
