Chennai-based automotive component manufacturer MM Forgings Ltd has announced a major capacity expansion with an investment of ₹230 crore in what is expected to be the world’s largest 16,500-tonne hot forging press. The strategic investment is aimed at strengthening the company’s position in the global heavy commercial vehicle components market while supporting its revenue target of nearly ₹2,000 crore in FY27.

According to the company, the new hot forging press is currently being manufactured in Russia and is expected to be commissioned by the end of this year. Once operational, the facility will significantly enhance MM Forgings’ ability to produce larger and heavier forged components for commercial vehicle manufacturers across international markets.

The new 16,500-tonne press will surpass the existing 16,000-tonne forging press operated by Bharat Forge, making it the largest hot forging press in operation globally. The advanced equipment will enable MM Forgings to manufacture heavy front axle beams weighing more than 170 kilograms and crankshafts weighing up to 300 kilograms.

At present, the company’s manufacturing facilities are capable of producing forged components weighing approximately 120 kilograms. The addition of the new press is expected to open opportunities in the global heavy-truck segment, where demand for high-strength forged components continues to grow.

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer Vidyashankar Krishnan stated that the investment aligns with the company’s long-term growth strategy and its focus on serving leading commercial vehicle manufacturers worldwide. The expanded production capability will also help the company cater to evolving customer requirements in the heavy-duty transportation sector.

India’s commercial vehicle industry is witnessing steady growth driven by infrastructure development, logistics expansion, mining activities, and industrial investments. As demand for heavy-duty trucks rises, component manufacturers are increasingly investing in advanced forging technologies to improve efficiency, product quality, and production capacity.

With the commissioning of the world’s largest hot forging press, MM Forgings is expected to strengthen its export capabilities, expand its product portfolio, and enhance its competitiveness in the global automotive components industry.
