Construction of the long-delayed integrated terminal building at Vijayawada Airport is set to regain momentum after KMV Projects emerged as the lowest bidder for completing the remaining works. The balance contract, valued at approximately ₹138 crore, is expected to revive progress on a project that has remained stalled for several years.

The integrated terminal project was originally launched in December 2018 with an estimated total cost of around ₹611 crore. However, construction slowed significantly after the earlier contractor failed to maintain the required pace of work. Authorities later removed the contractor, leading to further delays in the project timeline.

With the latest tender process now identifying a new lowest bidder, the airport infrastructure project is moving closer to resumption. Once the contract is formally awarded, KMV Projects will be responsible for executing the remaining construction works required to complete the terminal facility.

Officials have indicated that the pending works are expected to be completed within about six months from the date of commencement. The completion of the integrated terminal will significantly enhance passenger handling capacity and improve the overall travel experience at Vijayawada Airport.

The new terminal building is designed to support growing passenger traffic in the region while offering modern facilities and improved operational efficiency. The development is also expected to strengthen connectivity for Andhra Pradesh by enabling smoother airport operations and accommodating higher passenger volumes.

Vijayawada Airport has witnessed steady growth in passenger movement over the past decade, driven by expanding business activity, tourism, and improved regional connectivity. Infrastructure upgrades such as the new integrated terminal are considered essential to support this rising demand.

Industry observers note that the revival of stalled infrastructure projects plays an important role in strengthening regional development and improving public infrastructure. Once completed, the terminal is expected to serve as a key aviation gateway for the Vijayawada region and surrounding districts.

With the tender process moving forward, stakeholders are hopeful that the project will now progress without further delays and deliver much-needed capacity expansion for the airport.
