The Hyderabad Disaster Response and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) on Tuesday carried out a major demolition drive targeting alleged illegal stone crushing units and ready mix concrete plants operating in Hyderabad’s outskirts.

The enforcement action covered Gowlidoddy, Vattinagulapally, Gopanpally and Kothwalguda areas near Shamshabad, where authorities demolished eight cement and stone crushing units along with three ready mix concrete plants. According to HYDRAA officials, the operation was conducted based on reports submitted by the Telangana Pollution Control Board, the mines and geology department, and a recommendation from the Rangareddy district collector.

Officials alleged that the units were functioning without mandatory approvals from pollution control and mining authorities. Despite multiple notices and warnings, operators allegedly continued operations, leading to strict action by enforcement agencies.

HYDRAA stated that illegal mining activities had caused significant environmental damage in the affected regions. Authorities claimed that natural hillocks were being cut and crushed without permission, resulting in severe dust pollution and deteriorating air quality for nearby residents. Officials also alleged that several units operated continuously throughout the day and night, increasing environmental concerns.

The demolition operation was conducted in the presence of officials from pollution control, mining and revenue departments. HYDRAA further claimed that some units had allegedly been operating for years under benami ownership with support from influential groups.

However, unit operators strongly opposed the demolitions and maintained that they possessed the required permissions and contracts. Some owners protested at the demolition sites and questioned HYDRAA’s authority to remove their facilities.

Following protests from operators, HYDRAA temporarily paused further demolitions and provided additional time for remaining unit owners to remove machinery and equipment from the sites.

The incident has once again highlighted growing concerns over illegal mining activities, environmental violations and regulatory enforcement in rapidly developing areas around Hyderabad.
