Chennai: Capacit’e Infraprojects Limited has secured a ₹368.98 crore contract from Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) to construct buildings on open land parcels near Thirumangalam Metro Station, adding a new urban infrastructure project to its order book.

The company received a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) for the work, which involves developing land alongside the existing Chennai Metro viaduct. The contract was disclosed to stock exchanges on October 6, 2026.

The project covers a range of construction and building services, including civil and structural works, architectural finishes, plumbing, electrical and mechanical installations, ventilation and air-conditioning systems, lifts and associated infrastructure. The development is expected to make use of available land around the metro corridor, although details of the proposed buildings and their intended uses have not yet been announced.

Metro Corridor Land Development in Focus

The contract highlights Chennai Metro’s continuing efforts to develop land around its transport network. Areas near metro stations can offer opportunities for commercial and other urban developments, supported by public transport access and existing infrastructure.

Thirumangalam is part of Chennai’s established urban network, with metro connectivity serving residents, office-goers and other commuters. Developing vacant parcels alongside the metro viaduct could help make more effective use of land within the city, subject to the final project design and approved plans.

However, CMRL has not yet disclosed the building configurations, construction schedule or expected completion date for the project. Further details will be needed to establish the scale and intended function of the proposed development.

Contract Adds to Capacit’e’s Infrastructure Portfolio

For Capacit’e Infraprojects, the award expands its participation in public-sector infrastructure construction. The scope combines core building construction with several specialised services, requiring coordination across structural, architectural, electrical and mechanical works.

Such projects typically involve multiple construction disciplines working within a defined site and infrastructure environment. In this case, the presence of an existing metro viaduct makes the precise site layout and construction arrangements important factors as the project progresses.

The ₹368.98 crore award adds to the company’s order book, while also connecting its construction operations with Chennai’s ongoing urban infrastructure development.

The next key milestones will be the disclosure of construction timelines, detailed building plans and the project’s completion schedule. Until these details emerge, the full scale of the development near Thirumangalam Metro Station remains to be established.
