Bengaluru Metro Phase 3 Moves Ahead with Land Acquisition Process
Bengaluru Metro Phase 3 has reached another stage in its implementation, with the Karnataka government issuing a preliminary land acquisition notice covering 13,409.05 square metres of land across 11 property entries. The notification, dated October 16, 2026, relates to Package 1 of Corridor 1, which runs from JP Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura.
The notice marks a step in the process of securing land required for the project. However, it is a preliminary notification and does not mean that the acquisition has been completed. The properties identified in the notice include locations such as Kaggalipura and Jaraganahalli, along with other areas along the proposed corridor. The notification has also been published in the Karnataka Gazette.
Land acquisition remains a key part of delivering large urban transport projects, particularly in Bengaluru, where metro construction must navigate established residential neighbourhoods, commercial areas and existing road networks. The latest notice provides a clearer indication of the properties covered by this stage of the Phase 3 process.
BMRCL Seeks Consultants for Both Corridors
Alongside the land acquisition process, Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has invited expressions of interest from Indian and international firms to provide General Consultancy services for both corridors under Phase 3.
The appointment of consultants is an important part of project delivery, supporting coordination across planning, engineering, construction and implementation activities. The latest invitation signals that consultancy arrangements for the two corridors are also moving through the procurement process.
Bengaluru Metro Phase 3: Route and Project Details
The approved Phase 3 network spans 44.65 km and includes 31 stations across two corridors. Corridor 1 covers 32.15 km with 22 stations, connecting JP Nagar 4th Phase with Kempapura. Corridor 2 extends for 12.5 km and includes nine stations between Hosahalli and Kadabagere.
The Union Cabinet approved the project in August 2024, with an estimated completion cost of ₹15,611 crore. In March 2026, a Japanese yen loan agreement covering ¥102.48 billion in official development assistance was signed with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).
With land acquisition notifications and consultancy procurement progressing, the next stages will be important in determining how the project advances towards construction. The pace of subsequent approvals, land acquisition and implementation will shape the delivery of Bengaluru Metro Phase 3, which is intended to expand the city’s public transport network.
