Bengaluru is taking a strategic step towards addressing its growing traffic congestion by studying Hyderabad’s successful flyover and elevated corridor model. Civic officials from the Karnataka capital recently visited Hyderabad to understand how large-scale infrastructure planning has helped ease traffic flow in one of India’s rapidly expanding urban centres.
The move comes at a time when Bengaluru continues to face increasing pressure on its road networks due to rising population, rapid urbanisation, and growing vehicle density. Key corridors across the city often experience severe congestion during peak hours, impacting daily commute times and economic productivity.
Hyderabad, on the other hand, has gained attention in recent years for its well-planned network of flyovers, underpasses, and elevated corridors. These projects have significantly improved traffic movement across major junctions and reduced bottlenecks in high-density areas. By adopting a similar approach, Bengaluru aims to replicate these benefits through its upcoming infrastructure initiatives.
Officials are particularly focusing on Hyderabad’s execution strategy, including project planning, land acquisition, and timely completion of works. The emphasis is also on integrating multiple transport solutions to ensure seamless connectivity across the city.
The Karnataka government is now exploring the development of new elevated corridors and flyovers in Bengaluru, especially along critical traffic stretches. These projects are expected to play a crucial role in decongesting roads, improving travel time, and enhancing overall urban mobility.
Urban planners believe that adopting proven infrastructure models can accelerate project implementation while minimising risks. However, they also stress the importance of tailoring these solutions to Bengaluru’s unique geographical and traffic conditions.
As the city continues to grow as a major IT and business hub, efficient transport infrastructure remains a key priority. The study of Hyderabad’s model marks a proactive step towards building a more sustainable and commuter-friendly urban environment in Bengaluru.
