Bengaluru Traffic Relief As Karnataka Cabinet Approves 11 Mega Elevated Corridors

The Karnataka Cabinet took a massive step toward easing Bengaluru traffic woes on Thursday April 16. Ministers approved the construction of 11 elevated corridors across the city to modernize local transit. This mega mobility project carries an estimated cost of 13262 crore rupees. The primary goal is to offer long term relief from the chronic congestion that plagues the technology hub of India.

Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister HK Patil briefed reporters about the major decision. He noted that the corridors cover 75.6 kilometers and represent a central part of the government strategy to overhaul transport infrastructure. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar first proposed this plan in 2024 with an original vision for 110 kilometers of roads. Later the Bengaluru Suburban Mobility Infrastructure Limited or BSMILE prepared reports for 13 corridors. While those initial estimates reached 18000 crore rupees the Cabinet currently cleared 75 kilometers of work to begin soon.

The project will move forward in three separate tender packages. Nine of these corridors follow the Public Private Partnership model while two will operate under the Build Operate Transfer system. Key stretches include a split flyover at MEI Junction on Tumkur Road near RNS Shantiniketan and grade separators on Pipeline Road within Mahalakshmi Layout. Other vital links connect Doddaballapura Road at the Police Station Junction to the NH 7 Navayuga Flyover at Kogilu Circle and span Konankunte Circle along Kanakapura Road.

Additional infrastructure updates include the Minerva Circle to Hudson Circle route and a connection from Sirsi Circle to Nayandahalli on Mysuru Road. Commuters will also see a new corridor from Shoolay Circle to St Johns Hospital along Hosur Road. Beyond these roads the Cabinet greenlit the Intermediate Ring Road project which the Bengaluru Metropolitan Region Development Authority will manage with slight modifications.

In related news the government approved a revised budget of 436.44 crore rupees for the IOC Junction rotary flyover and a two lane railway bridge at Baiyyappanahalli. They also sanctioned 85 crore rupees for a biogas purification system using sludge from city wastewater plants. These combined efforts highlight a significant commitment to modernization and sustainable urban growth for all citizens.
