Andhra Pradesh is set to significantly expand its aviation infrastructure with an ambitious roadmap that includes the development of 10 greenfield airports and 10 water aerodromes over the next four years. The initiative forms a key part of the state’s New Aviation Policy 2024-30, which aims to transform Andhra Pradesh into a major aviation and logistics hub on India’s eastern coast.
The policy places strong emphasis on Public Private Partnership (PPP) models to attract private investment into airport development, aviation infrastructure and allied services. By encouraging greater participation from private players, the state government intends to accelerate project execution while reducing the burden on public finances.
According to officials, one of the primary objectives of the policy is to ensure that every region in Andhra Pradesh has access to an airport within a radius of approximately 150 kilometres. Improved connectivity is expected to support regional development, strengthen business activity and create new opportunities for tourism and trade.
Apart from greenfield airports, the policy also proposes the development of water aerodromes and heliports, creating a more diversified aviation network. These facilities are expected to improve connectivity to coastal regions, tourist destinations and remote locations that currently have limited transportation options.
The government believes that a modern aviation ecosystem will play a crucial role in supporting industrial growth, exports and logistics operations. Better air connectivity can also attract investments into manufacturing, technology, healthcare and service sectors across the state.
The aviation expansion strategy aligns with Andhra Pradesh’s broader infrastructure development agenda, which focuses on creating world-class transport networks to improve ease of doing business and enhance economic competitiveness.
Industry experts view the policy as a major step towards positioning Andhra Pradesh as a leading aviation destination in southern India. With strong policy support, strategic coastal advantages and increasing investor interest, the state is expected to witness significant growth in aviation-related infrastructure and economic activity in the coming years.
