Adani Group Explores ₹16,000 Crore Titanium Plant in Andhra Pradesh’s Srikakulam

Adani Group is exploring a major investment in Andhra Pradesh with a proposed ₹16,000 crore titanium manufacturing plant in Srikakulam district, signalling a potential shift towards domestic processing of beach sand minerals and value-added mineral products.

A delegation led by Karan Adani, Managing Director of Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone, met Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in Amaravati to discuss the proposed project and its broader industrial potential.

The proposed titanium plant is part of the Adani Group’s plans to develop value-added products from beach sand minerals. During the meeting, the delegation briefed the Chief Minister on the availability of beach sand minerals, potential products, industrial applications and market opportunities.

Ilmenite, a mineral found in beach sand, can be processed into products such as titanium slag, titanium dioxide and titanium sponge. These materials are widely used across industries including paints, plastics and polymers, making titanium processing an important area for downstream manufacturing.

For Andhra Pradesh, the project could create opportunities beyond mineral extraction by establishing a larger processing and manufacturing ecosystem around beach sand resources. The state government has also emphasised the importance of retaining more value within the domestic economy through local processing.

Naidu called for an integrated value chain around the proposed investment, with greater emphasis on domestic processing. The objective is to maximise economic benefits, promote value addition and reduce India’s dependence on imports of critical minerals.

The discussions also covered the Adani Group’s proposed data centre and IT park in Visakhapatnam. The Group presented a master plan for the development, along with proposals for skill-development facilities that could support the region’s growing technology and industrial ecosystem.

The combination of mineral processing, technology infrastructure and skill development could give the state multiple avenues for industrial growth. Srikakulam’s proposed titanium project, in particular, could strengthen Andhra Pradesh’s position in the emerging domestic critical minerals and advanced materials value chain.

The project is still at the proposal and discussion stage, and further details on implementation, investment structure and timelines are expected as the plans progress.
