Tata Steel India has reported a strong start to the financial year, recording an 11 percent year-on-year increase in crude steel production during the April-June quarter of FY27. The company produced 5.82 million tonnes of crude steel, compared with 5.23 million tonnes in the corresponding period last year, reflecting improved operational performance across its domestic manufacturing facilities.

The growth was primarily driven by higher production at Tata Steel’s integrated steel plants in Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, and Kalinganagar, Odisha. These facilities continue to play a vital role in strengthening the company’s production capabilities while supporting India’s expanding demand for steel from infrastructure, construction, automotive and engineering sectors.

Along with higher production, Tata Steel India’s deliveries also increased by 9 percent year on year to 5.17 million tonnes during the quarter. The company witnessed healthy demand across multiple business segments, including automotive and special products, branded products, retail solutions, and industrial products. This broad-based demand highlights the resilience of India’s steel market despite evolving global economic conditions.

The automotive and special products division contributed around 0.9 million tonnes of deliveries, while branded products and retail accounted for approximately 1.7 million tonnes. Industrial products and project businesses added another 1.6 million tonnes, reflecting steady consumption from large infrastructure and industrial projects.

Apart from its manufacturing performance, Tata Steel also reported significant growth in its digital business. Gross merchandise value generated through the company’s e-commerce platforms increased 61 percent year on year to ₹2,200 crore during the quarter, demonstrating the growing adoption of digital procurement channels by customers.

Internationally, Tata Steel faced mixed performance across its overseas operations. Production and deliveries in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom declined due to planned operational changes and ongoing capacity upgrades. Meanwhile, the company continues to advance the construction of its 3 million tonnes per annum electric arc furnace at Port Talbot in the United Kingdom as part of its long-term decarbonisation strategy.

With strong domestic production, healthy customer demand and continued investments in sustainable steelmaking, Tata Steel remains well positioned to support India’s growing infrastructure and manufacturing sectors while strengthening its global competitiveness.
