Deep-tech aerospace and defence startup SpaceFields Pvt. Ltd. is set to establish an advanced solid propellant processing facility in Andhra Pradesh, marking another significant step in the state’s efforts to attract high-technology manufacturing investments.
The Andhra Pradesh government has approved the allotment of 120 acres of land at the Industrial Park in Thimmasamudram, Anantapur district, for the project. SpaceFields, an Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bengaluru-incubated startup, will use the site to develop a state-of-the-art facility for processing solid propellants, commonly used as rocket fuel in launch vehicles, defence systems and space applications.
The upcoming facility is expected to create around 300 direct high-skilled employment opportunities, contributing to the growth of the aerospace and defence manufacturing ecosystem in the region. Commercial production is targeted to begin by July 2028.
The investment reflects Andhra Pradesh’s growing focus on advanced manufacturing sectors such as aerospace, defence, electronics and space technology. By supporting specialised industries with industrial land and infrastructure, the state aims to position itself as a preferred destination for technology-driven investments.
SpaceFields has emerged as one of India’s promising deep-tech startups, developing advanced propulsion technologies for both civilian and strategic applications. Its association with IISc Bengaluru highlights the increasing role of research-led startups in strengthening India’s indigenous space and defence capabilities.
The project is also expected to support the government’s vision of expanding domestic manufacturing under the Make in India initiative while reducing dependence on imported critical technologies. Once operational, the facility will enhance the country’s capability in producing advanced solid propellants for future aerospace and defence programmes.
With global demand for space technologies and defence manufacturing continuing to rise, projects such as the SpaceFields facility are expected to play an important role in building India’s self-reliant industrial ecosystem. The development also reinforces Andhra Pradesh’s ambition to become a major hub for high-value industrial investments and innovation-led manufacturing.
