SEPC Limited has secured a major engineering contract worth ₹673.32 crore from Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) for expansion works at the IISCO Steel Plant in Burnpur, West Bengal. The order marks another significant addition to the company’s industrial EPC portfolio at a time when India’s steel sector is witnessing fresh investments aimed at boosting production capacity and supporting long-term infrastructure growth.

The contract is part of SAIL’s ambitious 4.08 million tonnes per annum crude steel expansion project at the IISCO Steel Plant, one of the public sector steel producer’s key manufacturing facilities. The expansion is expected to enhance production capabilities and improve operational efficiency as domestic steel demand continues to rise.

According to the company, the project comprises two major packages. The Coke Oven Balance of Plant Package, excluding civil and structural works, is valued at ₹296.77 crore. The second package involves the Sinter Plant Balance of Plant works, including civil and structural components, and is valued at ₹376.56 crore. Together, the contracts take the total order value to ₹673.32 crore, excluding taxes.

The projects are scheduled to be executed over a period of 30 to 33 months. Industry observers believe the order will provide strong revenue visibility for SEPC while strengthening its credentials in executing complex steel and heavy industrial infrastructure projects.

India’s steel industry is currently undergoing a significant expansion cycle, driven by rising investments in infrastructure, manufacturing, transportation and urban development. Both public and private sector steel producers are investing heavily in capacity enhancement to meet the country’s growing steel requirements and support the government’s long-term economic growth plans.

Commenting on the development, SEPC Managing Director Venkataramani Jaiganesh said the order reflects the confidence placed by leading public sector enterprises in the company’s engineering and project execution capabilities. He added that the contract positions SEPC to participate more actively in the ongoing transformation of India’s steel industry.

The latest win is expected to strengthen SEPC’s order book and further establish the company as a key player in the country’s industrial EPC and infrastructure development landscape.
