Karnataka is set to get a major sports infrastructure boost with Chief Minister Siddaramaiah laying the foundation stone for an international cricket stadium at Suryanagar in Anekal taluk of Bengaluru Urban district. The project is expected to become one of the most important sports and urban development landmarks in the state.

The upcoming stadium will be developed with an investment of ₹943 crore and is planned with a seating capacity of around 80,000 spectators. Once completed, it is expected to become the second largest cricket stadium in India after the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The scale of the project reflects Karnataka’s growing focus on creating world class sports facilities outside the core city limits of Bengaluru.

The stadium is being developed by the Housing Department and Karnataka Housing Board. According to officials, the project will be fully funded by the board without direct government funding. This model is expected to support infrastructure creation while also strengthening revenue generation through planned development in the region.

Along with the stadium project, the Chief Minister also launched the Namma Mane housing initiative by laying the foundation for Surya Shine and Surya Divine residential complexes. The housing projects are aimed at providing affordable homes to citizens and are part of a larger integrated development plan for Anekal.

The event also included the symbolic handing over of sites to landowners who contributed land for the housing development. Officials said the Karnataka Housing Board expects strong revenue from site development, which can support future housing and infrastructure projects across the state.

The integrated development plan for Anekal also includes proposals for a Games Village, improved road connectivity and wider economic growth through sports, tourism and employment generation. With Bengaluru expanding rapidly, such projects are expected to create new growth corridors around the city.

The Suryanagar stadium project is likely to attract sports events, visitors, real estate activity and allied commercial development, making it a key infrastructure project for Karnataka’s future urban growth.
