Karnataka has taken a major step towards strengthening Bengaluru’s sports infrastructure with the floating of a ₹943.46 crore tender for the city’s second international cricket stadium. The proposed venue will come up in Anekal taluk, on the outskirts of Bengaluru, and is designed to accommodate 80,000 spectators, making it one of the largest cricket stadiums in India.
The project is being spearheaded by the Karnataka Housing Board and will be developed at Indlawadi in Suryanagara 4th Phase. Officials said the new stadium is part of a broader 75-acre multi-sport complex, with the cricket stadium forming the first phase of development. The vision is to create a world-class sports and entertainment destination capable of hosting international cricket matches, concerts, and large public events throughout the year.

The move has gained urgency following the tragic crowd management issues witnessed during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru IPL celebrations near the existing M Chinnaswamy Stadium. Authorities believe a larger venue on the city’s outskirts will significantly improve crowd flow, parking, emergency access, and public safety.
The project will be executed under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) model, with a single contractor responsible for design, procurement, and construction. The tender is expected to be finalised by May, and the construction timeline has been set at 36 months, along with a five-year defect liability period.
Designed to meet international standards, the stadium will feature a column-free seating bowl, premium hospitality zones, corporate boxes, advanced drainage systems, broadcast infrastructure, and integrated safety mechanisms. The venue is also expected to benefit from upcoming connectivity projects such as the Satellite Town Ring Road, improving access from across Bengaluru.
Once completed, the Anekal stadium is expected to transform Bengaluru into a year-round sports and events hub, boosting tourism, local business activity, and Karnataka’s ability to host major global sporting events.
