The Bengaluru–Chennai access-controlled expressway, one of South India’s most ambitious highway projects, is set to feature its first rest and recreation (R&R) centre designed to enhance commuter convenience and travel experience. The facility will come up at Iythandahalli near Bangarpet, close to the historic Kolar Gold Fields (KGF).

Spread across 30 acres, the upcoming R&R centre will be developed at an estimated cost of ₹150 crore by YSPACE, which recently bagged the tender floated by the National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML), a subsidiary of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI). The project aims to provide world-class amenities for motorists, truck drivers, and tourists travelling along the high-speed corridor connecting Bengaluru and Chennai.

According to YV Ratnakumar, Chairman of YSPACE, the rest and recreation complex will feature multiple facilities including food courts, fuel stations, drive-through restaurants, a factory outlet mall, and a mega play zone for children. The centre will also have a motel, handicraft stalls showcasing regional art, and a dedicated space for drivers with dormitories and cooking areas.

A highlight of the project will be a towering 144.9-foot Hanuman statue, which is expected to become a landmark for the region and a symbol of divine protection for travellers. The site will also include a helipad and a fully equipped trauma centre to handle medical emergencies along the highway.

The Bangarpet R&R facility is one of three such centres planned along the Bengaluru–Chennai expressway, with the other two located at Chittoor and Kanchipuram. Construction work is expected to be completed within a year, aligning with the expressway’s final phase of completion.

Once operational, the project will not only enhance commuter comfort but also boost local tourism and business activity around Bangarpet and KGF. With a blend of convenience, safety, and cultural appeal, the new R&R centre promises to redefine highway travel between Bengaluru and Chennai.
