Bengaluru’s Metro network, one of India’s fastest-growing urban transport systems, has received a significant boost with the supply of advanced stainless steel from Jindal Stainless. The company has delivered 1,031 tonnes of 301N austenitic stainless steel for the Phase 2 project, which was recently inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The project includes 53 new trainsets designed to provide safer, faster, and more sustainable travel to commuters in the tech capital. Jindal Stainless’ contribution is critical, as the 301N stainless steel is known for its high strength-to-weight ratio, corrosion resistance, fire and crash protection, and low carbon footprint. These features make it an ideal choice for metro coach structures, including roofs and other crucial components.

Abhyuday Jindal, Managing Director of Jindal Stainless, expressed pride in being part of the Bengaluru Metro’s expansion. He highlighted that the use of 301N stainless steel aligns with India’s vision of building resilient and sustainable transport systems. “Urban mobility is at the heart of India’s development story. By supplying a safer and more sustainable material for the Bengaluru Metro, we are reaffirming our commitment to building infrastructure that stands the test of time,” he said.

The Bengaluru Metro Phase 2 expansion is expected to ease traffic congestion and improve daily commuting for millions of residents. With its focus on durability and safety, Jindal Stainless’ material supply will ensure that the metro coaches can withstand demanding operational conditions while offering passengers a comfortable travel experience.

This collaboration also underscores the growing role of Indian companies in shaping world-class infrastructure projects. By supplying domestically produced stainless steel, Jindal Stainless reduces dependency on imports while supporting the government’s push for self-reliance under the “Make in India” initiative.

As India continues to modernize its metro networks, the use of advanced materials like 301N stainless steel reflects a shift toward safer, greener, and more efficient public transport. For Bengaluru, this milestone marks not just an infrastructure upgrade but also a step forward in creating a city that is better connected and future-ready.
