In a major move to streamline toll payments and ease congestion on national highways, Union Road Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced a FASTag-based Annual Pass for private vehicles. Priced at ₹3,000, the pass will be rolled out starting August 15, 2025.

The Annual Pass will permit non-commercial vehicles like cars, jeeps, and vans to take a maximum of 200 toll journeys or benefit from one year of validity from the date of activation, whichever is earlier. This scheme is not available for commercial vehicles.

This pass will make travel on highways more comfortable, quicker, and cheaper for individual car owners,” Gadkari said. “It eases the process of paying tolls and meets the long-standing demand for toll plazas within 60 km of one another.

The pass can be bought and renewed from the Rajmarg Yatra app, as well as the web pages of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).

Authorities say the program is likely to benefit private car owners of millions by substantially decreasing waiting times and conflicts at toll booths. The policy is also consistent with the government’s overall push towards digitizing highway operations and enhancing user experience with FASTag-enabled solutions.

By facilitating a single payment and avoiding dual deduction of tolls, the new system ensures a smoother, more predictable driving experience on India’s national highways network.

The action follows a rising clamor for toll reform, mostly from commuters traveling on short highway segments but paying full toll prices. The Annual Pass will relieve these daily commuters while enhancing traffic movement across the country.
