In a move that could significantly enhance regional air connectivity and industrial growth, the Tamil Nadu government is fast-tracking the ambitious Hosur Greenfield Airport project. Officials have identified nearly 2,000 acres of land in Krishnagiri district, marking a key milestone in one of the state’s most awaited infrastructure developments.
According to government sources, the state will submit a formal proposal to the Ministry of Civil Aviation within the next two weeks, seeking site clearance for the new airport. Once approved, this will pave the way for detailed project reports (DPR) and environmental assessments, moving the project closer to execution.
The proposed Hosur airport is expected to play a vital role in easing air traffic congestion at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru while catering to the fast-growing industrial and logistics corridor between Hosur and Bengaluru. With several major industrial estates and IT parks located nearby, the airport will serve both passenger and cargo operations, boosting economic activity in northwestern Tamil Nadu.
Industry experts believe that Hosur’s strategic location close to Bengaluru and well-connected by road and rail makes it ideal for developing an alternate aviation hub. This project is also in line with the Tamil Nadu Industrial Policy 2021, which emphasizes infrastructure-led growth and regional development.
State officials have emphasized that once site clearance is granted, the next phase will include land acquisition procedures, compensation packages for affected landowners, and infrastructure design. The project will be implemented under the public-private partnership (PPP) model, ensuring both efficiency and long-term viability.
The upcoming Hosur airport is expected to transform the surrounding region into a thriving economic cluster, improving connectivity for industries, residents, and tourists alike. As Tamil Nadu continues to strengthen its infrastructure network, the Hosur airport project stands out as a symbol of the state’s forward-looking vision and commitment to balanced development.
