Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), the corporate entity of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP), has posted a strong performance in the financial year 2025–26, recording significant gains in production as well as revenue. The latest figures indicate a robust turnaround for the state-run steel maker, supported by improved efficiency, better capacity utilisation and rising market demand.
According to the company, hot metal production surged 52 per cent year on year to 5.95 million tonnes, compared to 3.91 million tonnes in the previous fiscal. Liquid steel output also registered a strong rise, reaching 5.69 million tonnes from 3.75 million tonnes. Crude steel production increased 51 per cent to 5.43 million tonnes, up from 3.58 million tonnes in FY25.
The strong growth in production reflects improved plant operations and higher productivity at the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, one of India’s major public sector steel manufacturing facilities. The company attributed the growth to a continued focus on productivity enhancement, strict cost control measures and improved customer servicing.
On the commercial side, RINL reported an annual turnover of approximately ₹22,311 crore in FY26, registering a 22 per cent increase from ₹18,288 crore in the previous year. Sales volume also rose sharply by 27 per cent to 4.42 million tonnes from 3.49 million tonnes.
The improved performance comes amid sustained demand from the infrastructure, construction and manufacturing sectors, which continue to drive steel consumption across India. With several large-scale infrastructure and industrial projects under execution, the demand outlook for steel remains positive.
RINL said it will continue to strengthen its core operations and focus on product quality improvements to enhance its competitiveness in domestic as well as global markets. The strong FY26 performance is expected to reinforce confidence in the public sector steel industry and further support India’s broader industrial growth momentum.
